  • 5 tons o fun....an axle to end all axles

ok...well i think ive finally stepped off the deep end....

after much thought, research and alittle ribing from friends(justin) mainly ive decided to do a completely rediculouse axle swap into my new buggy...

all it really took was for some people to tell me it couldnt be done or wouldnt work.........

so that pretty much told me that it had to be done.......so here go's

im building a set of 5 ton axles for the buggy..........

why .................why not......there huge, heavy, and just plain rediculouse.......what more can you ask for....

my plan is to do some serios trimming and modifying to this axle to get it to some where within a 150 or so pounds of a 2.5 ton axle....

    a 1200lb axle....

    removed brakes.......70lb drumx2, 60lb backing platex2
    260lb's less so far...

here are some more picks just for gigles....
as i modify and trim pieces ill post up the weight of the part before and then after the trimming job..........

are these over kill.....yes,is it stupid ,,,maybe....but i cant find a better reason to do this than to see what can be done.......

yes thats the axle next to a 36 inch hummer tire

                          all mine do

Gman, Out of simple curiosity, do you know how much bigger this axle is from the center line to the bottom of the differential than a 2.5?
Are you going to go up in tire size?
I only see one axle, are you going to get another steering axle and have rear steer?
                          What’s the gearing?
How are you going to avoid the oil pan? Axle in front?
Are you gonna run a pinion brake?

Those two axles weigh over half what my rig weighs!!!

I understand about doing this because it's different and your buddies say it will never work... But how are these gonna make your buggy perform better on the trails. IMO don't mess up a nice start on a buggy with these axles.
