  • Bedrug carpet in the TJ.

Not really a lot to review here. The front carpet was gone a long time ago. The rear I chunked last week. Funny, I actually thought my transfer case was getting hot but forgot about the belly up and picked up a few other tips looking around the web. My other three TJ's were autos so never thought about the boot being ripped under neath. So, between the ripped boot, no carpet, and a belly up it was hot enough to fry eggs on. As I get older, the creature comforts mean more to me than ease of cleaning.

So, anyways, I cleaned the ole tub with ATV cleaner, and then slapped it in. I only used the front velcro at this point the rear I believe will hold like the factory carpet. Amazon had the front kit for like 128.00 and the rear made it a lump sum of about 300.00. Longest step was cleaning the tub and that didn't take too long. Well, I like it. I haven't even replaced the torn boot yet and this stuff eliminated all of the heat around that area. It has some heat shield on the tunnel sides and is a tad thicker than the stock carpet. Cut down a lot of road noise also.

Something else I learned after owning these things for over 25 years. I bought a new Smittybuilt top just to get by since the stock one leaked. Put it on and it was a little loose. So I would drive to work every now and again and the sides would pop out of the rails. Annoying but not that big of deal. Just randomly I started pushing the edges up over the rim of the tub one day. Did this on both sides and amazing how the top stays in. Well worth the investment of the top. Never had to to that with Bestop so never really thought about it.

Did the bedmat in the front of mine a couple years ago. Love it. Shoulda did the rear before putting the storage boxes back there. Oh well, not taking them out now.
