  • First real upgrade. Question?

Ok so this week were having a lift installed.. Based on reviews we decided to go with the
Teraflex 2.5 suspension lift (not the spacer lift) . Anyways we want to keep the stock Rubicon wheels and tires on for a while and eventually go with bigger tires later, but still keep the oem rubi wheels..
    1. Will the stock wheel/tires be ok with the lift? For now
    2. What's the biggest tires I can put on the stock Rubicon hard rock wheels without issues
    3. Will I need spacers for the wheels or any other mods

Any info is greatly appreciated still a newbie.. Thanks

No you'll be fine with the stock tires and wheels. You don't need spacers or anything.

Now with that being said.......When you get ready to go bigger, you need to change wheels also. The factory wheel is too narrow and the offset is 5" if I'm not mistaken. That will cause it to rub. Most go with a 8-10 inch wheel. Depending on the tire you go with as in a 35X12.50R17 a 17x9 with a 3.5 to 4" backspacing wheel I think is ideal. That's the set up I did to Brenda's JK.

I'm sure some of the JK owners will chime in......... Me? I run mostly stock.

You are absolutely fine with your current wheels/tires, with the 2.5" lift (same lift I am running).

Now, you can keep your Rubi wheels, and go with something like a 315/70/17 (close to 35").
      Two things though:
      1. Not all tire dealers will be willing to mount these on the stock wheels, based on their width. I know several people that actually do run them this way, so should be fine.
      2. You WILL need spacers to run the bigger tire on the stock rim.

Maybe one of the many IT guys on the forum can fix this long running problem.

The latest is it will be fixed with the move to a hosted solution (upgrade comes with it). That's in the works.

I recommend you get a set of new wheels rather than use spacers. A set of 5 steel wheels will probably cost you only as much as buying the spacers.

Either you use some expensive spacers or cheap wheels! :)

I got myself the Pro Comp D Window steel wheels (set of 5) for a little over $250. Granted it doesn't come with beadlock and other fancy stuffs but neither do I plan to wheel with 5 psi. Works just fine for me :-)
