Gas Tank

My 98 TJ used to spit out fuel, I replaced the filler hose and that resolved the problem. I also had an issue with the cap not making a good seal and posting a CEL code. Replaced the cap. Then I melted the tank, don't do that.

X2 What code is it throwing? With the age of the vehicle and the newer ethanol fuels there is a good chance of some bad vent and vacuum lines for the emissions system. Only hard part of this fix is dropping the tank to acces the vent lines.

It's possible you overfilled with such force it pushed some fuel into the vapor canister and it's reading a code??? Might check that.
What is the code itself?

97-02 didn't have the fuel spillage issues due to different design in emissions.
My 2000 TJ has never had that issue at a pump.

If it's throwing codes, something must have got messed up, maybe it needs to be reset? Jeep's are known for spitting out fuel, but not like that, could have been a bad pump? Last year I replaced my fuel filler hose with a GM model that has the baffle built into it, since then I've never had fuel spill out when filling up.

I agree with the others, see if it does it again first.
